In July 2010, after an extensive renovation project, the Israel Museum reopened to the public. For the redesigned and expanded manuscript galleries in the Jewish Art and Life division, the museum commissioned me to produce a film explaining the stages and craft involved in the illumination of a hand made book.

A single page of the Rothschild Miscellany, one of the most important manuscripts in the musum’s collection and certainly the most lavish and magnificent of all surviving late renaissance Hebrew manuscripts, was used as the basis for the film. The recreation of that page presents the materials, tools, and techniques the original renaissance artist and scribe would have used.
